This is pretty cool, Picasa has now opened up (test) online albums, which you can upload to from Picasa

    http://picasaweb.google.com/

I actually might even use Picasa now! This will be a nice way to ensure my digital photos are stored forever!

Of course, I'll keep the *personal* shots off their servers... maybe

because many people like me would like to use one integrated provider for all tools like email (gmail), calendar, office (coming soon), search, bookmarks, photo editing

and that's what Google provides, free

Not much of blow yet, its just going to be 250MB space to start with.

If google opens it up like what it did with gmail (unlimited) then yes, lots of image hosting sites, online photo albums will sit out of business.

It won't be free, it wouldn't be financily feasable for them to offer it for free with the kind of resources image hosting uses.

They mention $25/year for 6gigs of storage, I don't see anything about bandwidth usage though.

If I couple that $25/year with adsense picasa refferal ads I'll be getting a good server and using it to make money

The idea is not new. Photomax is offering already free Webalbums with 5GB space. Google is just following the trend.

It still says you need an invite, but if you login and enter your gmail id, you can use picasaweb immediately - without getting any invitation email.

Btw, where is the upgrade to 6GB for $25/yr ? It seems its missing.
