I am getting ready to write an ad for Google adwords. What is the best way to do it broad match, phrase match or exact match to start with.

    Thanks!

It depends on you keywords, if the search volume is really high, you can get burnt with broad match, if not then you can start with broad match and make sure you can track which keywords is costing you money and what's making you molah. Then create exact match for only those that are making you money.

I've been using exact match recently because I want better quality clicks, but I think I might need to broaden out as I'm not getting as many impressions as I would like for the exact match.

You need to start with the exact keywords. Which will helps to generate quality traffic only.

I always prefer Exact Match. I don't prefer Broad search.

use all three options and track all your keyword conversions then dump the losers and tweak the winners to exact phrase

thanks for all the advice! Maybe I will try tracking them all and see which one pays out. I will let you know the outcome once I get the ad going and track the site for awhile!

use broad match, exact and phrase in separate campaigns. Use the broad match search query report to find keywords that are converting or getting high ctr - then add these into your exact match campaign...
