Hi Everyone, This is my first post on here, hoping to learn a few things. I currently run my company's Adwords campaign. I am not a total novice, and know that you want multiple ad groups and specific ads that relate to the keywords. My question is this: Three of my ad groups have probably 400+ keywords in them and are all set to phrase match (the reason for the number of keywords is that we advertise nationwide and I have to include all of the major cities in the US as well as states and variations). I tried broad match in the past but after seeing the keywords that were triggering my ads in analytics I decided it was MUCH too broad. My problem is that many of my ads won't appear when I type in the exact phrase. Have any of you ever had a problem with this? Should I break the groups up even further? I already have about 25 ad groups, you can only have 40 right? Second Question: When you type in "Jumbotron Rental Chicago" for instance many of my competitors ads will show the state under their ad. I am aware that you can set up different campaigns where you can geo-target by state or location and it will do this. My question is, do you have to set up 50 different geo-targeted campaigns (one for each state) for it to do this? I find it hard to believe that that is what they did. Thank you for any assistance you all can give. Mark
Maybe you are being outbid, and/or have your ads set to show over time, rather than showing up every time one of your terms is searched. This allows you to run your campaigns more evenly throughout the day, so your clicks aren't spent within a couple of hours each day. These are a couple of reasons you could not be seeing your ads when searching your phrases. As for your second question, you set geo targeting on the campaign level. If you have 50 campaigns, you will have to set your geo targeting for each one (double-checking this to make sure).
My bids are high enough and my ads are set to accelerated (I never exceed my budget anyways). Sorry, I should have mentioned these things.
If you feel it may be an issue with the fact that you switched from 'broad' to 'phrase', switch it back to 'broad' for a bit and test it. Are you only noticing this on one keyword or phrase, or all of them?
That's the strange part, it only happens with half or so of my ad group (but considering I have 400 keywords in that ad group, that is definitely significant!) I guess I could try switching back to broad. I just don't have much faith in the whole "expanded broad match". Thank you for your help.
I'm just a beginner, but the same thing happened to me in two different cases. In one of them, Google support had to "switch on" my account (thats probably not your problem) and in the other, I had overlapping keywords. If two or more keywords overlap, at least one should be active. But no ads were triggered for those keywords. I removed overlapping, then they started to show.
