Hi I have built a site using the phpnuke system and it has gotten quite large now lots of members. I havn't had any problems using this but i have recently read a lot of bad things about it. Could you please give me your honest opinion on phpnuke.
They do have a lot of bad reviews even years ago... I don't feel like using phpnuke... too many reported security issues to patch and see... Try drupal or even geeklog.
I dont suppose anyone would now how easy it would be to convert my sitye to joomla without losing everything and all my members.

phpnuke is dreadful. I must have wasted a few months just hacking the code to get it to look the way I wanted, and even still, there was way too much left to do. Anything that involves too much hands-on tweaking that takes time away from writing content is not worth it IMO.
I had a Nuke site or two back when it was popular. I liked it but the file size was big I thought for a cms in it's day. I go with Joomla now. They have an active community with over 2,000 extentions WOW
To be clear, phpnuke, un-modded, and un-patched (using third party patches) is total and utter crap. However, some builds based on it sneak by with being o.k. It is a SQL query resource hog, and inefficient system, and one I will never use again. Unless you use something like Dragonfly (cpgNuke) that dramatically increases its stability and decreases its resource usage, it is total crap.
