Why red rep me for the above post, the thread is clearly about phplynx templates and I was informing the forum of this change. If you are not interested in phplynx go and read other threads that you are interested in. thanks not aubenrey
Aubenry, I always get red repped for even mentioning phplynx. Theres a little bunch of kids around here that are so blissfully dedicated to phpLD they hate any mention of phplynx. Funny
It reminds me of when David Koresh used to send his followers out to collect money from the sidewalks, think of it in that light and you'll find it as hilarious as I do.
Rephrase, many idiots on here are 'THREATENED' by phpLynx and use the excuse they don't like the people who work for it. They don't know us to like us. Oh, btw, the release is probs going to be this Monday to Wednesday latest, just going to get the guys together for a pep talk and iron out last minute creases and then go for it. 99% of the script is opened up, the rest is what people don't need to access and is coded to prevent theft. Will post about it in appropriate thread so as to follow forum rules.
I know i will probably get slated for this but what the hell. I have used the phplynx directory script and followed its progression since it 1st started over 2 years ago. I have seen the guys at phplynx`s forum (formerly cantufind forum) take on board many suggestions for the script and implement them without any problems at all. The offer a great 100% free support service which sometimes can take longer then the paid ones but they do get around to you, you might have to give gary a nudge now and then but the support offered is in my mind great. When I 1st used the script it was quite over whelming the amount of items within the admin panel and yes you need to configure the script to suit your needs, the default template is more of a business profile then a hobby directory profile. They are many pluses for the script such as static content straight out of the admin, deep links, alternate categories, Alternate payment processors, more three types of listing types, SEO friendly URL`s, Bad Word Filters, Ban Management and much much more. I have read the posts on this forum regarding the script and do feel that YES it could of been promoted a little better in the early days but also see the direct influence from the phpld users out there and not even giving the script a chance. Simply put I would prefer to install a script with all the features i needed rather then install a base core then have to apply mods (which are normally paid for) to even send an email to the listing owner. I would lay money down that most people who slate phplynx have never used it or they installed it and because it was so different from the norm they just gave in. I hear the "its encoded wont touch it", complete bull in my mind, if you are that good at applying mods to phpld you can easily learn a bit more smarty and modify the tpl files to act as you require them. Layouts, listings, DB access, Mysql etc etc all this can be done within the smarty templating system. Its good to see the script is going 99% un encoded but to be truthful I dont honestly see the need, You can achieve most things from smarty, I hope the guys are still going to protect their product. Take the llink in my sig, Yes Gary from phplynx owns this site, and it is 100% run from the full version of thescript, the menus left and right are automatically generated and the links inserted as soon as a new static page or even category is added from the admin panel, The script also has an unencoded default page which can be used for anything. With the use of java or lastrss you can easily add feeds / google maps and much more to your site also. In a nut shell stop been so blinkered and give the script the credit it deserves, At least try it before commenting on it. Just my thoughts Sorry if you don't agree, we are all entitled to an opinion. Thanks aubenrey
Yes we are protecting the script but we've still managed to release at least 99% of the code for those who want try and add mods and those who are just plain nosy as there really wasn't any need.
Aubenrey = Spot on. All completely valid points which only cover the tip of the iceberg when speaking of the diversity of phpLynx.
