Deep Link Mod is not really included but they way the Admin is done up you can set it up yourself, i did and if i did anyone can!!! I almost fell in love with indexu but after I got my first indexu directory up and running I had some problems with support that really rubbed me the wrong way and I got a refund on the additional 4 licenses I bought. I have said it before and I will say it again, if a directory script comes out with all the features loaded into it 'out of the box' and does not require modding then it will grab tons of market share. You can check out my indexu directory totalxsearch.com
Maybe I have a misunderstanding what deep links is. I thought it was the ability to add more than one link. As for support myself Have had no problems in the support ticket section. Now the support forumm needs help no doubt. As for Phpld dont get me wrong. It is a good script... I will keep it
This question may be a little off topic but I am bored right now. How come none of these scripts come with a bunch of preset categories that you can just put a check mark by a have them added? You think that with so many directories out there this would be one of the main features. The creators should know by now what some of the top categories are. Something as simple as a set of default categories with the option to create your own. (hint to the script creators) One thing that got to me about phpld is the fact that once you create a cateory and add meta information with keywords and descriptions there is no way to go back and change them. And I agree with you jg123 that the script creators should be all over some the simple features such as deep link mods, suggest category, bidding mods and so forth. Man I wish I was coder and knew how to do this stuff.
There is one that does just that....I was going to purchase but found IndexU instead and its called powerseek here read http://www.focalmedia.net/ but one key is 400 smackers but it is nice...comes with 30 templates...omg what a directoy/search engine
@banless if u were a coder and i were a coder we would be rich lol and would not be here at DP but would be driving our BMW's. Plus default categories make 2 sites look alike and close so categories should be setup by owners and make sure it looks unique.
I think the default category thing is a good idea, there could be like 5000 of them and you just choose the ones you want and you can still add more or rename then to help make your directory unique. I also looked at powerseek a while back but it was too expensive. I would really love to see David make a deal with all the mod developers and come out with a premium edition of phpld..... "@banless if u were a coder and i were a coder we would be rich lol and would not be here at DP but would be driving our BMW's." - You can hire a whole team of coders from India for a few thousand bucks to make the script exactly how you want it I bet.
lol might be the best thing as none are miracle workers. All require a great deal of work and patients
I was going to pipe in about phpLynx being better than both of them but judging by this post here I won't just yet. http://www.phpldowners.com/battle-of-the-directory-scripts-competitionchaos.html But that's another story, me, if I hadn't plumped for phpLynx I would now have gone to indexu now that I know its there, I did think about phpld but looking at the quality there is no comparison whatsoever. It seems to me that phpld are very quickly falling behind on just about every aspect which is kinda sad as they started the race from my reading? There are scriptwriters out there thinking out of the box, look at phpLynx banless, think they just about cover all of this except the bidding mod which I read on here somewhere they don't go for as its too close to googlies concerns on link selling. You can even suggest a cat while posting to a directory which is neat. Weak point on indexu is the allowing of submitting to more than one category at a time, that will cause problems on load down the line. OP, you'd be crazy to switch from what I see as a pretty good script to one that is only half way up the evolutionary chain of programming, you'd be downgrading which is never a good thing.
"Weak point on indexu is the allowing of submitting to more than one category at a time, that will cause problems on load down the line." - I think you can control that feature but I like it as it charges a small premium to folks that want to be listed in more than one category. Also, how will that effect load down the road? thanks
jg123...I wouldn't be concerned about the load. I posted a reply on another thread here somewhere on DP about someone concerned about load and performance of IndexU....basically what I said was that I have three IndexU sites...one of which has at present just over 2.3 million and some change, links. There is no load problem at all. IndexU allows for a cache setting so that helps tremendously. You can control the cache life as it is configurable and prevents lots of unneeded DB calls which is what ultimately slows any script down depending on how it's indexed. I hope this helps. tom
