[phpLD Mod] Videos

While it is still relatively new and will surely undergo more improvements, I thought I would take the time to announce we have a mod for showing videos in categories now (for v3 supporters only so far).

(the sort order can be changed by editing the template)

I hope some people will find this one useful. I have found it fun already, and may find some way to start organizing my favorite videos this way.

 

But you cannot upload the video itself to the directory can you ?

 

That's cool, very original idea. Within a month or so everybody will be making video directories

 

Oh sure and in a months time we can see Paris Hilton Video Live in a Family Friendly Directory.

 

Not yet, but that is something we will consider as more people start using it and providing feedback.

 

Ok, for a second i thought it was a mod that could actually upload videos, and had not thought that it would be just putting some other sites video feed on ur directory.

Cool i wait and see how it turns out to be and if actually ability to upload small videos becomes a feature.

You figure sites like Digg are doing this, either linking or embedding. There is a little more concern about things like server load when you start uploading, but I see no reason we can't do that too.

 

Just an advice before distribution that it dont fall in the wrong hands with the wrong people. There are already directory owners that are careless. Its too much of a dollar to handle in litigation.

 

Can you explain more about what you mean?

 

Oh i usually do not look into the server load much cause i know how to get my server optimized. . But yaa i see no reason either why you guys can't do it, its upto the end user than what methods he wants to use.

Its all about giving more options to end users.

Yes, and more options are coming.
But hope first people will help by trying the mod and provide their feedback. It is pretty much stand alone and should not interfere with other parts of the code.

 

It is distributed to owners of version 3 of the phpLD script who are members of the supporters forum.

 

If you are going to allow video uploads, bandwidth and space will come into play as an issue. Just make sure it doesn't get out of control... or you have some heavy hosting to back it up

 

Are the videos to be uploaded limited to approve contents or anybody can accept videos if its a paid listing. Do you know where the members are in cases there should be questionable things that were accepted in their directories and have you taken precautions for its mass usage ?

 

So gotta be a member of the supporter forums to download this mod?

 

Currently, only the admin can add videos, but that will change. The mod is still relatively young.

Now, yes. If the mod is included in a later release of phpLD, no. Access to new mods is one benefit of being a phpLD supporter.

Yes, most likely we would have some statistics about space used, but we are not ready to add uploading at this point.

 

If you add option to upload video for featured links that will be shown on link details page that would be great.

 

Good idea. Hopefully, we will get to the point where we do uploads, not just embedding. Right now, I am still waiting for a few more people to test it and provide their feedback, so we can set the next goals.

 

david, so that means for normal R3.1 users, won't have access to that cool mod? can i upgrade my status by paying 10$? to get this tool?
