Isn't that the whole point? I get enough crap submissions to my directory. Slowing them down is exactly what I want to do. Submissions that I'll actually approve are not going to mind the extra few seconds.

I simply want to stop automated submissions. I want to make sure someone actually visited my site, found the most apropriate category, and viewed the guidelines of submission. There is just too much crap to wade through without some kind of validation process.

I completely agree. I hated having to disable the original captcha, but I was getting a lot of bad feedback from it from those who submitted. Some tried several times and failed. Since disabling it, the amount of junk submissions is terrible.

What ends up happening to a lot of directory owners is they get buried with crap from automated submissions, and then there are two people that lose:
    1) the good sites that submitted
    2) the directory owner
This is serious stuff. I have some other plans to help address this problem. As we move to the paid (but still not too expensive) model, I really hope that it will become easier to give you what you need to run a great directory.

I hope everyone will do their best to support me as I roll out 3.0, and if you do, I think you will be quite pleased with what you see happen in the next few months (and sooner!).

Where and how does one purchase a license for version 3, David? I am battling a cold or the flu or something but when I checked the site last night I couldn't see any instructions.

The other question I have, though it's not a huge deal, is do people that have already contributed cash to version 2 get a discount? How will this be handled for future versions? In other words, since I made a contribution for version 2, do I get an "upgrade price"?

I don't think he has released an official means of payment for 3.0 He did say in the phpld forums that persons interested could PM him. I did just that, and made a simple paypal transaction.

Just a quick bump to remind everyone that David says he is planning on tomorrow being the big day. So get those directories ready for 3.0, and let anyone know who might be interested (like on other forums) about tomorrow. It would be great if David is swamped with purchases for the new release. The more money he gets coming in for this one, the bigger and better the future releases will be. I know most of us have mod requests we've made that just never could get done because there wasn't enough time for David and his volunteers to work on them. With some cash behind these and the ability to pay for help, we should see alot more action on some of these requests.

If you've prepaid, look for an announcement circa midnight EST for where to download it. :D

The new release of phpLD 3.0 is not free. there is a $25 charge to get it now. It is expected to become free again in a few months.

Thanks, I thought that was the charge to get it without the copyright requirement!

If you want to purchase it without the copyright, the cost is $75. David has put many hours of work into phpLD, and is deserving of some reward. Hopefully, most people will show some respect, and pay such a small fee as $25.

Actually, $25 gets you the new script. $10 more gets you access to the support forum. $75 gets you the right to remove the copyright notice.

Note: The release of version 3 does NOT mean that individuals still using version 2 can now remove the copyright link (unless you have made a special arrangement with David Duval).

<edited for clarification - thanks AC!)

I'm just trying to get as much as possible in place before I "open the gates".
One thing I know is that everything will not go perfect, but I hope people will be happy with what they get.

In many ways, 3.0 is the start of something. By going to the paid model, it allows me to provide better support, as well as move forward with more development of features, and quicker response time to fixes. So if everything does not go perfect, I want everyone to know that you have already helped me make it easier to help you!
(thought these next couple of days may find me quite busy) :)

I hope to start giving copies to people who have pre-paid in a few minutes. :)

Yeah Dave, you can't make a living working for free

I would keep it paid for sure!

$25.00 is nothing for the benefit gained, keep up the good work!

    Thanks, Anthony! :)
You mean I don't have to live in a cardboard box anymore?

A few people now have phpLD 3.0. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days. One nice thing now is the use of language files. Now we can have phpLD in other languages.

    Get those domain names now!
