    Ok heres the deal,

Im looking to put together a few news sites and currently use WP & ArticleLIVE but am looking for a change.

    My options are:

Joomla + news mod + SEF

Setup - over $100 per site

    PHP COW

    Setup $59.99 per site

    Vivvo

    Setup $999 - unlimited sites

Now i know each has its flaws but im looking to optimize as much as I can "out the box" and have an easy to use CP for the writers

All the PHPCOW sites I have seen have very bad URLs (even after mods), Vivvo is a little better but still uses numbers on each article but overall the joomla looks OK.

    Whats your opinions?

Joomla is the most flexible one out of those options. You can pretty much modify it to do anything you want, if you have the patience to go through the learning curve.

Thanks for looking at Vivvo CMS :)

Just a little correction - Vivvo can use numbers for each article (by default), but you also have an option to manually enter SE-friednly article name at your choice. I.e. - http://www.myvivvo.com/Technology/Hardware/vista-motherboards.html

You can lower the setup price by 40 EUR if you wish.
Try one of the free yet powerful SEF extensions. OpenSEF or JoomSEF would do just fine!

Although Vivvo is excellent for SEF ,you have to manually enter SE-friednly URL.
OpenSEF are excellent too, but you will meet some issues if integrate joobla with SMF.
    Thanks

I used to work for PHPCow for some time and I'd say it's the best, especially in terms of customization and flexibility, like with PHPCow anyone with basic webmastering skills and no PHP can create a professional looking websites like at phpcow.com/?c=146 template examples.

Even with SE-Friendly URLs it rocks.
    Look at that:
    google.com/search?q=site:collegiatetimes.com/news/

Every single article is spidered and indexed with unique title, keywords and description. No article is missed and there are thousands of articles there.

SE-Friendly URL is what usually one calls domain.com/category/subcategory/title-here.html whereas a final ranking result doesn't really depend on the URL structure.

collegiatetimes is a best demonstration of that.
i can provide some further examples too, just email me at

    boccio,

I prefer my urls in all lower caps.

But with vivvo, if I create my categories with lower caps, it will appear on the side bar as lower caps.

Can your categories show as Mixed Caps in sidebar but lower caps in urls?

    Joomla + news mod + SEF = 0 $

    joomla is free
news mod : there are free themes which gives you the similar layout with this component . it's not necessary to pay money for it
SEF: OPENSEF rocks the other sef component that you give link. the sef component that you mention loads server so much but opensef_rc6 is pullig all urls with only one sql query. this means nearly zero load on server

note: i'm a member of opensef test team. i'm using the opensef_rc6 now;)

shortly my suggest is paying no money for joomla

I'm using NePHP on a couple of sites. Its pretty good, but the dev team seems to be gone... I like the product as it integrates with vbulletin, but I can't really recommend it now.
