You don't? In which case it looks like I could be struggling to get a refund for the second payment taken by my dedicated host.

What about if you requested the finished item on CD? Does it then become a tangible item? Perhaps that would be an alternative way of protecting yourself against fraudulant services.

Just to add to ajscottsr's post, I find that a contract helps things along the way too. Although it is hassle having a contract drawn up and can often be a costly process, when working on large projects it is usually essential to ensure you get what you paid for within the specified timeframe.

thats right you don't. it is a scammers dream.

a year ago, before i bought a turn key site from someone. now i know better but this was me starting out. somewhere alond the line he sold his "business" for i think 15,000 dollars or so. no one who was using his services knew. we kept getting billed to this same guy.

the new owners contacted us months later with an apology saying they had purchased the company months before hand. they were hosting our sites. yet we were still paying this guy. they sent reciepts , emails , etc etc. It was all legit.

Paypal does not consider this fraud even though we were paying for services to a guy who was not providing those services.

Case 2. A secretary in my office hired a woman in NJ to build an online store for her. She send 600 bucks and had a nice invoice of what she would get. Months later she found out I knew some things about websites and asked me if she was being impatient because it had been 3 months and hadn't seen anything. I was astonished. She asked for her money back. The person would not respond. She filed with Paypal. Their response was that if was not a tangible item they they did not cover it.

At the same time I was dealing with the case above. Same answer.

So don't use Paypal, don't use PhpConnection or dotbiz.com or gonecountygraphics.

    The end

This guy is hard as hell to find and I'm burning a whole in my wallet on phone fees.

Thanks alot! I've had to pick up a THIRD job to make up the money so I can go to university.

If anyone could try to get a hold of him that has free phone calling in the States I can forward you his number etc...it'd be a great help.

He's probably changed his MSN by now or something.

Could someone PM me Michael's home number? I lost it & have been trying to get ahold of him all week.

I'm in the same boat as you guys - paid him upfront for 10 hours of work back in mid-May and still nothing to show for it.

He told me it would take maybe 3 days to complete orginally. Now all I get is "just need to transfer the data over to your files - will do it by tomorrow".

Been getting that same response now over & over again.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

Nope. Called, left messages, sent emails, etc.

Still waiting to hear from him. He did call me back about a week ago, so I am hoping he will return one of my messages and/or emails.

He seems to go out of town alot, or at least that's what he says.

Has anyone been able to get a hold of this person yet?

Looks like he's deleting all his domain names.

I guess this scam is worth studying closely as a learn before you burn example for the rest of us when it comes to outsourcing.

lol wow after all this time. makes you wonder especially from his responses.

wish you all the best of luck.

In the future i suggest going with programmers on elance as i have good success there and their prices have been about $10/hr or less.

lol that is what was discuss before. scammy programmer feed on buyers on sites like that, no offense. i feel safer with a site like elance. going to your site would be the same as going to scriptlance or the like. escrow and deliverable based payment is a must.
