Phpbb3 Categories.....All forums grouped together?

Discussion in 'phpBB' started by UltimateFreebies, Apr 21, 2008.

How in the world do you place forums into categories on phpbb3? It seems that all individual forums are grouped together. To see what I am talking about, please visit www.workathomecompanies.net/forum.

I'm trying to separate the forums into certain groups, rather than one large group. Is there any way to do that? I've seen some forums that are similar and they have their forums separated into groups.

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

If I do that, then will it become a category under the parent forum? For instance, let's say I've got a group of forums called "Companies That Hire", and then I want a forum under each category listing a company, and have the names listed as a separate forum for each name. Is this what will take care of that?

    Example:

    >Category1 (Parent: No Parent)
    >>Forum (Parent: Category1)
    >>Forum (Parent: Category1)
    >>Forum (Parent: Category1)

When I was on phpBB 3 I found the same problem. Basically it is easy to work out as I did with in a couple of miniutes.

    Basically lets say you are trying to achieve this;

    Category

    Forum 1
    Forum 2
    Forum 3

When you go to make a new forum, change the drop down option to category. Then when you make Forum 1, 2, and 3. Make sure you add Category as a parent.

Tried that, but I must be doing something wrong, because I make the category and do exactly as described, placing that category as a parent for each forum, but the category shows up nowhere on the forum. What am I doing wrong?

When you make a category. You then need to make that category a parent and add parent to teh forums you want in that category.

Need to make sure you change permissions...

    1. Create new forum
    2. change > forum type: "category"
    > Parent Forum: "no parent"
    > Copy permissions from: "do not copy permissions"
    3. Once this is done you will be brought to another page which says "you can now change permissions"
    4. Change those permissions to allow the board to be visible to visitors

    Hope this helps :D
