Thats a bunch of malarkey. How many mods are in development? Hundreds. How many have been released for the PHPBB2 version and line? Hundreds and hundreds of modifications big and small. Because PHPBB is open source and free, and has an extensive knowledge base and community it can have a plethora of mods created by its users - and it has had a plethora of mods made.

PHPBB's security is better because people find the coding mistakes faster, they are addressed, and a patch is immediately released - PHPBB3 is the example in development security. Because everyone has access to the information people will find the exploits quicker and they will be fixed faster, making it secure. With VB it will develop at a slower pace, because people don't know the errors, people don't know what can be hacked. Hiding the problem is NOT HOW YOU FIX IT

PHPBB is easy to work with. It has a simplified installer, detailed menus, and a huge amount of setting and customization options in BB3. If you're comparing BB2 you are basically trying to compare a 2000 Chevy Blazer to a 2007 Trail Blazer. Even then PHPBB2 can beat VB in its vast array of mods, customizations, and ease in theme development. What BB2 lacks it can gain through modifications, and its support will remain active for the foreseeable future as a base model and security updates to the thousands upon thousands of forums that still use BB2 and cannot go to BB3 due to mods for BB3 still being new and underdevelopment.

Buy hey, it's your money you're burning - not mine. Have fun doing it.

I've edited plenty of scripts without breaking it. When I do 'break' it or, otherwise known as, causing an error - I look back and fix what I broke. It's simple. You broke it. You fix it. Can't fix it? You fail.

Ha ha. I edited phpBB 2 installation a few years back so much it didn't look or feel like phpBB 2. You just have to know PHP and that's about it.

phpBB 3 though. Now that's a forum system. I'm sure 95% of the vB fanboys haven't taken the time to play with a phpBB 3 system. So much easier to admin, so many more features, so much more pleasing to the eye.

I'd pay twice my vB license a year to use phpBB 3. Luckily phpBB 3 is free. When my vB licenses expire I am not renewing. Waste of money on an inferior product.

Yes, I can follow you on this one. They should've changed the poll into, vbulletin vs PHPBB3 (not 2). That might have changed the result. Despite I like the new look and feel of phpbb3, I am still using vbulletin, because I am used to it and find it pretty easy to dig in a bit deeper.

Well alright I am back with my big phpbb mouth. :D

    Read these Facts:

    1. Most important thing and shocking one as well: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2912904&postcount=64

    2. Replies to all Vb queries: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2919282&postcount=74

    3. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=4143595&postcount=103

    Remember to Read this:

    4. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2970511&postcount=89

Now talking about looks and Modifications:

    take a look over : http://forums.yahoofanclub.com

that forum you see is completely SEOed with:

    1. url Mod-rewrite,
    2.Social bookmarking,
    3. related topics in the footer of each topic,
    4. Meta tags according to topic,
    5. Title of each page is SEO
    6. looks better than Vb.
    7. Layout of the forum is modified.
    8. loading time is 0.6 secs

Even a couple of people were fooled for IPB... Only thing that remains is Topics, Posts, Last post style. Just lacks ajax quick reply and quick edit.. I havnt had time to install it. Still I dont see a need for that.

Now Whose got the problem with phpbb...

Vb is ok .. but phpbb with Mods is Heaven. ;)

PhpBB has a poor security. I got my 2 forums hacked last 2005 using phpBB.. even phpBB official forum before was hacked..LOL.

VB has tons of features other forum software doesn't have.
