You don't need to put one link back to the site (that's the rule for free license programs, and they also accept that).

They request that you do, but you don't need to. On my own sites, I put a link back, but it is OK to remove. The only thing is that if you remove it, they reserve the right not to help you in cases of technical problems.

vBulletin for sure. Are you kidding me? Not even a question.

    ;)

If you are serious about starting a forum get vBulletin

vBulletin - the best I've ever used. Better than phpBB, SMF,IPB, and websitetoolbox

I think it is especially telling that ever single person that says vBulletin is beter, can't give any reasons why! Most of the phpBB users have given examples of what makes it better, but the vBulletin crowd have stuck to nonsense like "Are you kidding me?", or "vBulletin for sure!", or "What a silly question!" Not one of them have provided a reasoned response as to what supposedly not only makes it better, but actually worth paying for the license.

I believe I rest my case.

vbulliten is better, but phpBB is a good one also considering the fact that its free.

On that note I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think vbuillten is over priced.

Question 1: when will people realise that vbulletin is the best?

Answer: No one is interested in your realization. ;)

Question 2: thats why its not free, thats why so many pro people use it.

Answer: Free or paid its not the software which makes your forum famous:

    Read my previous posts:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2912904&postcount=64

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2919282&postcount=74

Question 3: thats why so many companies use it.

Answer: No one is interested in installing Mods and some pre-made things which come with Vb. So, its laziness to some extent which leads to Vb. Also the so called creed of Vb thinkers who say Vb is good Vb is Good and dont have a perfect reason to support their argument. ... lolz .. Dont you people feel stupid :D

Question 4: thats why it is so expensive.

Answer: Why do you want to pay every year if you can do get everything for free. Its called stupidity :D

Question 5: vbulletin is the best.....or this forum board would not be using vbulletin ??

Answer: Those days there was nothing good available. But now we have alot of boards like phpbb, SMF, Subdreamer, Mybb etc etc.

Also dude can you tell me how much experience do you have with Bulletin boards ??

I know over 10 boards which are using Vb and even left the forums.

Vb is ok ... but phpbb isnt that bad. Its still better than many boards.

And yet again - all the VB people say retarded thing like "All the way!!!!! Weeeeee! VBulletin rules dude!" "My friend says its better!"

Once again, phpBB users give reasons why it is better, vBulletin users sound like they are on a roller coaster or something.

    Here's my opinion.

vBulletin is better out of the box because of AJAX capabilities and most things are there without needing modifications. There is a neat reputation system that current stable versions of phpBB lacks and many other features such as a nice looking User CP instead of a one page profile. I have tried phpBB3 and admit that it is a huge improvement over previous versions.

You are definitely right in a way. Most things that are done in vBulletin can be done with modifications and a little extra work with phpBB. Although, I still prefer vBulletin for some reason.

As a webmaster if I were to set up a new forum I would go with phpBB for sure until it gets better and then I might switch to vBulletin. As an end user, I prefer to visit websites with vBulletin. I find the interface more user friendly.

vBulletin is much more customizable with lots more settings in the Admin CP and a better template system for administrators. Also, modifications can be installed using the simple plugin system rather than editing lots of files. In the end, if you mind spending the extra money vBulletin is the way to go but if you have time on your hands to make your forum as good as it can be and don't mind having to edit files to install modifications, go with phpBB.

Sorry to gate-crash into the party, but has anyone noticed phpBB3???

And, how many forums running vB have you seen that look different from each other? At most, its just change of colours - from blue to green to brown!
It probably is more "user-friendly" because they're used to seeing the same thing over and over again!

phpBB3 has most of the common mods that had to be added to phpBB2 out of the box. And about support, www.phpbb.com beats www.vbulletin.org anyday!

And guys, the bottom line is, phpBB3 is free and vB is not. And free certainly doesn't mean bad. Do I seem like pulling myself into a Linux vs. Microsoft battle?

My final word - phpBB3.

When is free not good? Just because vBulletin charges for their script doesn't mean it's better.
