    Hey,

I have a heavily modded phpbb forum that I need to get exported over to vBulletin smoothly along with a redesign. Is anyone here qualifed to do this? If not, where would be a good place to find such a person?

    Thanks,

Might be wrong but I think VB offer this service at about $180 ( Its been sometime since I read this on VB )

VB is the best thing you will do mate although you will have your heart in your mouth when doing the switch with a good forum like yours

    Good luck

Hey... I just converted a rather large forum from phpbb2 to vbulliten. It was not too painful. They have scripts that come with VB to convert the users, postcoounts and all that stuff... the tricky thing is your mods. I can tell you its a hell of alot easier to custom mod for VB then it is for phpbb2 but converting mods I dunno...

I've just done an import too and it was amazing.

The mods are the holdup and then there is the imminent release of v3.5 which uses a different mod system.

We had the VB stuff do a 500k posts and 20k member phpbb forums and while the mods were of course lost the transition was smooth enough.

I think you should use VB staff for this..why bother to save a few bucks and give someone you don't really know access to your DB.

The mods are the problem... I have several custom mods, and about 40 mods all together installed on the board... most of them can be recreated once on the vB side, but some of them will need to be transfered over. I didn't know the vB staff did stuff like this...?

I thought this was a thread to talk about how phpbb is better than vbulletin. :)

I want to use vbulletin at some point, but one of my sites is heavily modified, and I just don't know if I am up to re-learning everything I learned to be able to make it do whatever i want.

VBulletin is a more capable platforum, but it would still need some work to have it do what I want.. and I am trying to cut down on work.

Anyways, let me know if you find an easy way to do it.. And I will stop sending you phbb mods. :)

Hehe... I would love to stay with phpbb... I am so used to it... but my host doesn't want to have to deal with all the crap that comes with having an active phpbb forum on one of his servers. I realize I could just switch hosts, but it was a move I was planning on making down the road anyways. I'm just going to hire someone to do the whole move and site redesign for me all in one shot... it'll be me back some coin, but I think long run, it will be worth it.

I have other phpbb sites, so you don't have to stop sending those mods. :p

I look forward to it. ;) It was a good experience for me, though... it's what introduced me to php and gave me a lot of knowledge of how it works.
