Both have their own pros and cons. I personally prefer phpBB 3 over SMF right now but then again, it's not a stable release so I'll have to wait for a while before I take it live on one of my websites.
I've never personally tried SMF so I am going to stick with my most favorite... phpBB2 (or phpBB3, whatever you want to call it.)
jump into the 21st century. phpbb is crap, always has been, always will be. for free forum software its SMF all the way. if you want to pay for it, go with vB.
Thanks for the red rep. Lmao, and finding my business topic to do it in. Oh brave soul, ye hath scared me! Not.
SMF is great, never had problems with that... phpbb is easily hacked and has a lot of features limitations,
I dont have to prove you, but in the past 2 years never been hacked on SMF, and before that i got hacked twice with phpbb. Also, I have watched several phpbb hacked recently, and never saw any SMF
I have kept my boards updated, and on all of them there has never been a single exploit or hacking. If they're not updated to the latest, then they will be hacked, the same with anything else.
i have seen several hacked SMF boards. only because the owner of the board had left a script on there site that was compromised, or there cpanel password got out, or the server they were hosted on was not secure. SMF cannot be hacked, if your SMF got hacked, its due to the server or the owner not being security conscious. phpbb is like a piece of swiss cheese.
PHPBB - because you can do whatever you want with it - and saying it is easily hackable is just plain not true. It is exploitable only when it is not kept up to date, as goes for any other forum software.
