PHPBB IP address question

    Hi,

I clicked on the "IP" button in a post today and found that a few other users were using the same IP address. When I click on "Look up IP address" it shows

    cache-dtc-ac10.proxy.aol.com

Does this mean that they could all just use AOL? If so, is there any way to tell if any users are the same person or not? Would there be any way to ban an AOL user? If you just banned their username they could create another one, and if you banned that IP then the other AOL users would be banned :(

    Thanks, Matt

Sounds like you've got it figured out already :D

AOL users are on constantly changing proxies, hell they could be on one IP for one post and by the time they make another it's changed again. There is nothing you can do to ban an AOL user via IP unless you're willing to ban them all.

Yeah you can't block an AOL IP unless you want to start blocking all AOL users.
