Oh No! Not this type of thread again! I got flamed the last time I commented about this! Therefore, I will just say that I use ASP because I think it is better in my opinion but I show absolute respect for this who use PHP. Either way, it depends on who is coding it and how easy it is for them. The end result for the way the page looks is the same. It's all about functionality I guess?

Depends on what I'm doing. If it's database heavy, something that'll be added to a lot and requires to be expandable, then PHP. If it's something relatively simple that needs to be up and running quick, then ASP.

Both are capable of doing whatever you want, but I feel them better suited for those respective situations.

Used to love ASP - till I saw all the functions and power behind PHP. So i was hooked on PHP for about a year until I saw how much ASS ASP.NET 2005 Kicked ass. Now I use all three+ColdFusion (whatever the client requests)

As for me if little or medium project (up to 40 tables, up to 400 hours approx) then PHP. If more complex then ASP2.0
But simple ASP (not .NET) - I don't analize it - IMO it's bad thing

It all depends really. Look into the concepts of both ASP and PHP, learn how to create basic programs or scripts with them and which you like the feel of and which you believe you are better with.

ASP is Microsofts serverside language using the .NET Framework I think.

PHP is a cool Open Source Server-Side language.

Net-Margin has a point. Not to hate, but Microsoft has waaaaaaaaaay too many random flaws. So many that when you put your trust in the technology, that's when they want you start payin for updates or upgrades.

    PHP all the way!

I used to code in ASP but the buyers were not in abundance for the projects so I started on with PHP and am getting more buyers for the projects.

I respect both languages. ASP is great. And PHP is also Great. :)

PHP is great because it's widespread, all hosters support it, and much of web-projects could be done with PHP
So PHP is the most effective technology to build small and medium web-applications
