Do you prefer PHP or Asp.net and why? Did you ever have a different opinion? Is it because you hate/like Linux/Windows? Or is it because you hate/like IIS/HTTPD? Your opinion matters!
I find there are more web developers that use PHP and Linux. The cost of development also tends to be less expensive.
Yeah... that's why one of the reasons why I use it. But there are other better reasons than it being cheaper. Cheaper is not necessarily better. It gives me more flexibility and control because I have an SSH client that does everything and gives me more control than IIS/Windows. Plus it's cheaper. That's just a bonus IMO.
I choose PHP over ASP.NET for mainly the following reasons (there are more): PHP as it exists longer and will last longer. Its not Microsoft specific / made and will not just disappear one day (list Microsoft's ASP did). I was giving ASP.NET a shot anyhow and for me it wasnt comfortable (I mostly felt that its harder to design the UI in ASP.NET than in PHP for some reason).
PHP is cheaper Now, provides you with almost same level of security Open source easy to manage/ develop hosting cost is also cheaper most of things can be controlled with the help of .htaccess file so many custom libraries are available for free, etc., etc.
PHP solely because it is cross platform compliant whereas ASP.net is only usable with Microsoft installations.
I would go for PHP as the support is widely available. I learned everything from the net! If I have a problem I just search for a solution.
Well, both programming languages are good ASP and PHP websites are more active and can allow users to connect and exchange information using the websites database. But the ratio of PHP Programmer for hire is pretty vast then asp developers.
PHP of course. However ASP.net finds its place in bigger corporate applications because IIS provides many facilities like scalability. In PHP also there are similar facilities but very few people use them.
I would go with PHP any day. Lots of Open source scripts available including the awesome Wordpress CMS.
