I have a custom script that caches the data it creates to a MySQL DB. The script is quite demanding and MySQL cannot cope with the constant read/write access and performs slow. Speaking to a few people we are looking at converting the script so it caches using memcached or even caches the data to text files. As you will be converting the current script it should be a straight forward job, we are looking to trial the memcached version first so you'll need knowledge of this, php and MySQL. PM Me, thank you.
