whats a good site to learn PHP from, once you understand the basic stuff that w3schools can give (if/else etc) where can i learn more than just the basics?
Zend Developer Zone is very nice: devzone.zend.com/tutorials Edit: And something a little more basic; phpfreaks.com/ (I used this years ago, not sure if it's still good to this day)
I used phpfreaks to learn on but haven't used it in a few years. My go-to forum for help is devshed forums. Typically if I need help with a specific method I'll just google it and use php.net as a quick reference.
There's some good advanced sections here. http://www.tuxradar.com/practicalphp What are you considering advanced? Generally after you get the basics (post OOP understanding), you would move to design patterns, streams, web services, SOAP, frameworks, security, optimization, etc...
To be honest, building PHP projects/sites is the way to learn. It is both useful (end up with site) as well as a beneficial for leaning. If you can't do something in creating your site/project, then ask forums, do small tutorials and then get back to the site/project. I like learning on the job.
Uhm...if your looking for more advanced stuff...and wanting to learn more, i'm pretty sure the PHP Manual @ http://php.net would be your best bet.
php.net is the official website for all php related stuffs. Once you are familiar with basic syntax try learning oops and start doing some assignments using php. You can start with a basic authentication and authorization system. Many companies use this as their employees training assignment. Good Luck with your studies ...
