The photo slideshow at msn is created using javascript. But the list of images and urls can be built using any server side language such as php. It is using timer function in javascript. I will not give you very much detail, because a guy from javascriptkit has made it. It is called 3 way image slideshow. I can not post a link here because I'm not allowed at this time. Sorry for that.
