    Which is the best framework available today ?

    CakePHP ? Symfony ?

    we need to start on new project and deciding on a good framework to use..

    Try them and decide for yourself, there is no "best" framework and they all have their own shortcomings. I liked Symfony and Zend frameworks but ended up using a thin application framework of my own.

    I like cake, haven't tried symfony, am in the process of abandoning a project in sapphire and starting over.

    My vote goes for symfony.
    Its the only php enterprise level framework available today. From my experience of various J2EE frameworks, I can say, Symfony is the only php framework which can be compared with any J2EE frameworks.

    This is my opinion, others may have different views.
