You should host your phplinkdir to the linux based server.phplinkdir only work in the linux environment.

It can be set up in windows hosting as well provided, php is installed, MySQL or MSSQL connection supported in php and the required database is available.

Another thing to note is MOD_REWRITE which will work only in apache, so dont expect it in IIS.

can you explain me how you tried setting file permission?

Setting file permissions on Windows is not feasible like in linux, so probably php is the main reason for problem , try installing uniserve server on your machine.

If don't have php on your won't be able to install a php based directory.

    Some options are:
    1) If it is your own server you can install and run the Apache Server (Windows servers run IIS) and then install php. (I think you can run PHP with IIS but don't believe this is reccomended)

    2) If you are stuck with Windows. IIS servers which will run ASP scripts. Try this list http://www.webscriptsdirectory.com/ASP/Link-Directory-Scripts/

    3) Buy space on Linux server. There are several available at very low prices.

I develop on my own PC with option 1 and send the files to a Linux server without much difficulty.

    Good Luck.

Thats a good option, look at peoples signatures on forums some offer good hosting :D

Anyways if you have a windows server and can allow rdp connections let me know i will get your php up and running.

As of 3.04, it is installing on windows a little easier than previously, but a linux server with cpanel is my favorite setup, and hostgator.com is one of my favorite hosts.

    Pratik,

I haven't worked with any of the ASP scripts. I might consider it one day. I don't believe a lot people here would have had that much experience with them either. So you may have to blaze the trail. I suspect most would allow for some customization.

If you test them let us know how it went.

Indeed, there is likely a good opening for someone to create and sell an ASP based directory script, but I am not aware of any really good ones available now.
