I'm not sure as to where this should go, but I'm hoping it can go here.
Alrighty, so I'm attempting to learn PHP. It's not going to well xD I don't have as much free time as I'd like so, that kind of gets in the way of things. Anyway, this a long way off, but I wanted to know what to expect. I wanted to create a sim game. I was wondering how much people would charge to create a full game? I could try helping out, but I would need a coder to team up with no matter what I do. Anyway, how much should I expect to have to pay for a full sim game?

Well I don't know exactly how much detail I can give at this point in time. Right now I was suggested something like a big cat rescue sim, and I kind of like this idea. I was also suggested a fantasy game on unicorns, which I didn't like quite so much xD
"A Breeding program to release them back into the wild, perhaps. Your cats would be scored on genetics and behavior. So you'd be aiming for a cat that was strong, agile, fast, and intelligent, as well as sound in body and mind"

So it would include that aspect, along with community features. Boards, messaging, moderator panel, news, chat, etc...

$6k seems a bit steep for what you're asking. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you found a decent coder who would produce something like you described for $1-$2k. Your cheapest option will probably be to collect bids from one of the hundred rent-a-coder sites.

You should budget more than 6k from my opinion in case You want to receive quality. Do not forget about support and other subsequent costs.

Yeah $6k might sound steep but in all reality it would likely not go all that far. Problem is that something like this will require a massive amount of testing and thaht will drag out the whole dev process more than you would think.

You may be able to achieve what you want through using lots of different scripts and portals. Maybe a forum basis with lots of plugins but you are unlikely to end up with a product you would be happy using. If you are really interested just start learning it and do it in your own time. You will learn a lot more and have more fun doing it that way.
