interesting very interesting because of photoshops flexibility people have been able to use it for web development (logos, buttons etc) and it does a fantastic job at doing this - but lets get this right - the first function of photoshop was to manipulate and edit photos (its just the tools are so powerful you can do anything with it) fireworks was created primarily for web site development - templates, logos, buttons etc the 2 can co-exist easily (bear in mind that web studio comes with fireworks and photoshop says to me that even adobe believe that both can co-exist together) although to be honest - i dont use fireworks at all these days - i just use photoshop for everything :-( sorry fireworks
1. if you don't know the difference you don't need Photoshop,Fireworks will do whatever you are capable of doing ( resizing, converting, editing and creating simple graphics). 2. Fireworks is $299 and photoshop is $649.
Photoshop is (believe it or not!) for photos! (Bitmaps) Illustrator is for.. illustrations! (Vectors) Fireworks gives you the best of both worlds and is excellent for prototyping websites and user interfaces. - Matt
So are you saying that vectors aren't possible in Photoshop? Obviously Illustrator is more optimal for vectors, but I don't really see how Photoshop isn't the best of both worlds. -Sasha
Photoshop isn't the best of both worlds because it does Not work with Paths/Points like vectors do. It works with Dots Per Inch (Paint/Raster). 2 totally different things...
hehe here you go my friend. As you can see ... Photoshop has a very powerful path/vector system. It's the same as Illustrators just without the obscure fancies. Photoshop screenshots
Just because it has a pen tool doesn't make it a vector compatible software. Last time I checked, Photoshop does NOT export in Vector formats. Unless of course it has changed recently. Which Vector formats does photoshop export in?
I'm not sure if it exports in vector format. As I stated, when you need serious vectoring, Illustrator is obviously the way to go. I was just correcting you in the fact that Photoshop does indeed have powerful vector tools. I know that it's paths are absolutely compatible with Illustator's paths however. But, honestly, when in your web design carreer have you had to export your Fireworks vectors into another program? I think we're on a tangent because I think that photoshop's ability to export vector formats is irrelevant to it's ability to perform as a web design tool using both worlds of rasters and paths.
actually it is, seeing that a high majority of businesses prefer their logo's in a Vector format & photoshop can't provide it. so that area of business is lost to the soul photoshop designer, while vector designers can do both web & print - as well as provide several different formats for any of the clients needs. I would have to say that fireworks is a bit more flexible in that area. Then again I'm not an Abobe user. I am however a 2D vector graphics creative designer & the majority of my clients for the past 2+ years (Almost 3) have always requested Vectors along with raster. Then again, the majority of my clients are brick-n-mortar businesses too. I suppose I can see where a strictly web based business may not have a need for vector. So I suppose it depends on what the majority of ones client base is as to which software is more ideal. And no matter what software one uses, the wise old saying is:: - Anyone can learn to use a software, however creativity comes from within, without creativity, it's just another software! -
