Wanted to know what you guys think about the mentioned softwares. Should i bother looking at GIMP? I do plan to train sometime in the future. A free software like GIMP would be a plus. My question is does it meet the industry standards like photoshop does?
Adobe's CS3 suite is just amazing and has maximized Photoshop's capabilities to a whole new level, I don't think Gimp is any competition for Photoshop now
If you wanted a free program to learn before buying Photoshop, you could try Artweaver, it looks more like Photoshop than the GIMP does. There is also Gimpshop, which is a version of the GIMP designed to be a bit more like Photoshop. However, the above posts are right, there isn't any real alternative to Photoshop.
there is no comparison photoshop costs moolah (because it's so robust) gimp is free it's like asking what's better to wipe your a$$ with - toilet paper or a leaf sure the leaf will do - and it's free but for cushion-y softness on your tender tush you'd opt for tp vanessa.
GIMP is for people that do not have photoshop. If you can get photoshop, there is no reason to use gimp.
in all my graphic design job hunting i havent heard of any one asking for gimp. therefore i think you should stick to photoshop but if you feel the urge go ahead and look at gimp for fun. But as far as used in the industry i havent heard of it being used.
Photoshop is Very good and probably the best. But Gimp is good too. If you know what you are doing both can be used. The plus point of gimp is that its free. I know some studios which do special effects for Big HOLLYWOOD Movies use gimp for frame by frame wire removal and other stuff. That is because the whole pipeline is designed in linux.
I have use GIMP for my web graphics for years. Seldom do i use photoshop... although it is available on my workplace deskstop.
