I agree with NM. If you have the ability to use both then do so. Use PS to edit your photos and then integrate them into the layout made through Fireworks if it is easier for you. Fireworks is limited in terms of photo enhancing but is recommended for people who are looking for a quick fix. It basically eliminates the need to measure every pixel. Although if you're aiming for a fast loading site, just stick to PS and rely on your coding skills. It's better to start learning early on compared to being overly reliant on one program. You may just end up with a sluggish website made up of too many image slices if you're not careful.
TY Sorbet.. Aiming for a fast loading site? Are you referring to the output of FW? A bit bloated I agree, but still semantically correct and a lot less than any other generator I have come across.. As for exporting "optimizing" images, FW "IMO" has PS beat. I can create some pretty good layouts in FW "Multiple pages" and export my pages as well as the images and how I defined them - .gif, .jpg, transparent .png. I do still take load time and server calls into consideration, but! It ain't nuttin like it was in 98 when we were keeping page size to at or around 16-20 k and CSS, what was that? LOL...
For me i've most preferred to use Photoshop because it has a lightly tools and it is easy and it is best for creating 3D design and like most web designs...
I design on Photoshop, and I can, as many who manage it can, design backgrounds, awesome buttons, ecovers, edit pictures, etc. But, i have learned a little about Firefox, and I can state that fo webdesigning Firefox is better, why? Mainly, because it has been created for that. To save time and space check this out: http://boagworld.com/design/fireworks-vs-photoshop/ http://www.rotheblog.com/2009/06/design-topics/save-time-exporting-web-images-using-fireworks/ http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/category/tutorials/fireworks-tutorials/ Finally i think thisis the best team: Fireworks, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.
Fireworks is also the only program i know, which can export 8bit PNGs with alpha transparency. Photoshop has the benefit of a much better dithering algo, which really comes into play if you store gradients in 8bit images.
Photoshop is the Favorite of Design Software but and Fireworks it's very good software becouse have other methods to design etc. But is good to work with Photoshop and Fireworks i do it
