I'm trying to follow this tutorial, but it is not turning out right for me. The problem is my illumination does not look like the one in the tutorial. The white is to bright, and you can tell that it is within a rectangle because it does not fade into the background; the rectangle's background is lighter than the main background. Here are the steps I'm taking in CS3: 1. New Document with the following settings: Preset: Custom Width: 845 px Height: 900 px Resolution: 72 pixels/inch Color Mode: RGB Color 8 Bit Background Contents: White 2. I color the background #151616. 3. I select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle. 4. I change the fill of the layer with the rectangle to 0%. 5. I change the settings of the gradient to match that of the tutorial.
Where do you get 27% from? Even with that change I still get the rectangle effect where it does not fade into the background and you can see the rectangle.
post a screenshot of what your getting so we can compare. Maybe the tutorial has a bug in it. It does seem like a white into transparent gradient like that set at around 76% would be too bright, it should be set to about 15-25% here is one i did a while back with a similar effect:
