How do I take a shape created by a photoshop brush and transform it to a vector image for use in Illustrator?

I've been trying the "export paths to illustrator", but when I open up the .ai file it creates, nothing shows even though I had the layer selected...

I hardly ever use Photoshop but I found some really nice brushes that I would like to use and edit in Illustrator.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

You can't export a rasterized image into vector..you need to trace it or to use live trace.
