Photo/Video Sharing Site

    Hello everyone,

I throw various parties and some of the people that attend the parties like to share their pictures with each other. Not just one or two, but usually by the hundreds and they're often full size.

At the moment I've set up a ftp site where people can share the files. In doing that I've given all of them the username & password to the ftp. I have to instruct some of them how to use ftp and to be sure not to change any files other than the directory for the pic upload.

What I wanted to do was create a photo/video sharing site that can make the sharing more user friendly. I guess it would be sort of a visual ftp. The thought/goals of the site would be:

~ Have each party password protected so attendees can only access their respective party.
~ Within each parties section, the ability for each attendee to upload their "album" where other attendees can then go to download one, some or all of the pics they see.
~ Maybe even some basic photo editing capabilities - cropping, resizing etc. - although not necessary now.

I know Flickr and SmugMug are along these lines but not quite. Also, since these are private parties the photos have occasionally gotten a little racey and to be honest I'm not sure either Flickr or SmugMug would allow them.

This idea is a work in progress so I'm sure it will morph into something a bit different with time, but at the moment these are my thoughts.

Thanx in advance for any ideas or direction you can offer :)

Thanks Sri - It looks pretty good. I'm looking into it further.

Do you have any experience with it? If so what's your take on it?

Never used it, so can't say from experience. I think it's a CGI/PERL script, not PHP based. So might be difficult to customize. Chk out their forum and read what other paid customers feel about it. Do your research before you decide to buy it.
