Photo popup utility (java? flash?)

I am building a personal site with writeups about small projects of mine. I would like to have medium (600x400) or so pictures throughout the writeup, and allow the reader to click the picture, opening a bigger version in a popup window. How can I do this?

You should use lighbox, you can see a demo of it in action here at one of my clients websites: Indoor Play Centre (it's currently not working correctly with internet explorer so use firefox or google chrome to see it in action.
