Im just passing this on to get the message accross, yeh why not boycott shell? Lets just all start using the little family run garages. Iv got a dont but esso sticker in the back of my car and i havnt been using shel or esso for a long time. Up to you if you want to participate but if anyone else is getting pissed of join in. Its not that hard not to go to a certain garage. Imagine if everyone in the country caught on, Seems a bit of a more convenient protest to make that the petty crisis a few years ago. If you think this could be a good idea add a post below and keep this thread alive.
You may want to make the original post a little easier to read These boycotts never work. Domestic Fuel is a small part of total consumption so a one day or even one week boycott will not affect prices in any way
yeh but if as many people as possible refuse to buy esso and go elswhere for an extended period of time then they will be forced to reduce there prices, therefore forcing other distributers to lower there prices. I dont buy esso myself because i think there a bad company, im going to carry on not buying esso anyway even if others dont. I know im not making a blind bit of difference in the big picture but im not giving my money to an unethical company with bad morals. i know it sounds stupid but i get a small sense of personal satisfaction from doiing my very small parts that i do.
That's an old chain letter that's been going around for years. Best just to pay no notice as most people don't.
Fair enough, just ignore it if thats what you want to do. I personaly dont think its best to just ignore it. If your rich and fuel prices doesnt affect you then i would ignore it but for the average joe like me its getting beyond a joke. it costs me over £10 to get to work and back, i only get £50 a day. I no its an old chain letter but i still think its relevent and always will be until somethings done about this.
Except fuel prices have nothing to do with it. THey won't be lowered by this action...Its economics 101 If you really want to do something buy a hybrid car and only use it when absolutely neccesary. Thats a lot more effective then emailing 30 people a chain letter
No .. the solution is to use cooking oil. It is cheaper and has been shown to work ( he .. he .. i use a bicycle ) Or try use flies
The best thing to do. Even if people have all the power to boycott all the oil distributors, consolidating that individual power is just as imp[ossible.
I would argue it is doing nothing...you are still consuming as much oil. So its from one crooked company rather than another. Its semantics
This is why im not to keen on giving my money to esso, like you say though, there all the same. Esso is the world’s no. 1 climate criminal. It has done more than any other company to stop the world from tackling climate change. Esso admits that it has a ‘vested interest’ in stopping governments from taking action on climate change. For over a decade, it has attempted to sabotage international negotiations on the issue and block agreements which would reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It’s thanks to corporations like Esso that the US ditched the Kyoto Protocol, the only international agreement to deal with climate change. With only five percent of the world’s population, the US is responsible for emitting 25 percent of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide. Esso wants to keep it that way. Esso even denies that climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels and has spent millions of dollars funding front organisations to reinforce its position. To protect its own profits, Esso opposes the switch to clean energy. Despite being one of the world’s richest companies, Esso doesn’t invest a single dollar in renewable energy. In fact Esso would like to see a massive increase in fossil fuel use over the next 20 years - a scenario that would send climate change spiralling out of control. SOURCED FROM www.stopesso.com .
Hang on - your complaining about Esso being a polluter but you also complaining you want cheaper petrol? Hmmmmmm....
yeh thats right, theres other renewable energy resouces we should be harnesing and these big companies like esso should be paying for the research.
Actually I disagree with you there. Why should a private company be required to pay for it. The truth is these alternatives could be a gold mine if the Government wasn't in debt to the oil companies. I believe in capitalism. If people started buying these alternatives, companies would see the financial oppurtunity and embrace it. Also, no research is needed...These solutions already exist and are used in other countries succesfully!
Research is needed, ok we may have access to a limited amount of renewable energy but what about all the untapped sources. What about the better efficiancy we could achieve out of these energy resources through a bit of research? What about all the other different types of energy we may not have even discovered yet? Theres a post running now about atoms and such and im sure millions upon millions is being invested in research for that, albe it not just for the energy purposes.
So in effect you have no responsibility in trying to cut pollution - its the responsibility of others. You'll just drive around and burn petrol until something better comes along? Its that kind of attitude that's got us in the place. There's plenty you can do as and individual to help things rather than blaming it on others.
