    @labrocca

I never said eliminate the general chat or intro forums. These are necessary in certain degrees. It allows one to blow some steam (gen. chat.) or get started (intro), but I believe it shouldn't be added to your post count.

People should feel free to post where they like. The distinction is that if you have 1000 posts by someone in gen. chat and intro and 1000 posts by someone in other (arguably) more useful forums they may look the same on paper.

People might think that both people are a good source or experienced members. . . when in reality only one is.

My argument is that the rep should reflect that.

That is indeed the point, Skinny. Several people in this thread seem to be missing that, perhaps because in other windows they are busy doing that "Welcome to DP!" <Ctrl-C> <Ctrl-V> thing and just don't have time to really read the thread...

If you are going to mess with introductions, can you just have it pm me any time Amitpatel3001 signs up again? That is the only reason I look at introductions.

HaHa . . Amazing Canadian humor (from Toronto here).

I remember one post where someone wrote "Welcome to DP" and the person was leaving. It was sad.

it makes sense, but i like to read what new members write about themselves, nice place to chill out when you are newbie that dont have much experience.

Nothing is being suggested here that would prevent new members from introducing themselves or that would prevent you from reading those introductions.

I'm for Intro posts not counting, I'm also for giving members the choise to disregard certain sections of the forum, that way I could choose to eliminate the intro threads from my "new posts" page.

I am kind of getting a bit bored of all the 'welcome to dp' posts that appear in the new posts sections.

I did welcome a few members, when I first joined the forum, but only because:
    1. Those threads kept cropping up under new posts
    2. I was new to forums and did not realise the implications

It would be great if the intro's did not appear in the new posts.

I tend to rely on the reputation system for an idea of how useful / trustworthy a dp member may be (especially since shawns adjustment to it) - not the number of posts they have made.

However I do think that if the more social forums are penalised too much then that may harm the warm and fluffy feeling I get when I visit dp - you've got to have somewhere appropriate to crack a joke?

I think the implication is that higher post counts means your an asset to the forum and to be trusted?

I suspect it has more to do with their signature. There are people here that laready have 1,000+ posts but still hit the intros forum with 20 a day.

The other side was the B/S/T and there are so many new members a day doing it it seems like non-stop

What is the big deal

You just make it an underground forum and don't show the signatures in that forum!

Is the problem with the new members or the old members?

Website review forums are spammed everyday on all forums by old members looking to self promote, anyone can see things like this!

It is up to the moderators to warn people that are spamming any forum, for post counts or self promotion!

Intelligent moderation is needed, not a bunch of rules and custom programming to reduce post counts!

    Ha, how funny!

    People think post count matters
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=9281
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=9278
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=1762
    hardly 100 between them.

    Signatures matter:
Try not link building and only increasing your post count on one forum. Make NO difference to your rankings. Time can be used better.

    B/S/T forum
Take time to read, discuss and get the feel for the place. You are less likely to get ripped off & more likely to sell well something if you do.

    Intro threads
Its nice to be welcomed, even if it is by a bunch of people who think they are benefitting themselves.

Still dont *get* post count junkies :)

What is the difference if they spam that forum or the others

Now people beat the rep system by repping their friends back and fourth in the forums where rep counts!

There is always a way to beat the system, that is where good moderation from people who understand the game comes in.....

There must be a million thread on that matter which all come to the conclusion that your sig does nothing for SERPs (Just indexing and any actually click throughs)

People still hold onto that perception though and think getting their sig showed 100's of time will somehow help them rank.

If only they spent all that time using tried and tested methods, they would be all set

    I can't believe you're still on this...

There was never a 'rep network'...

Most people with rep actually don't care about it... :\

I know, I have tested it to the most minute degree (didnt even see a 1 place shift from 3000 posts), though its still spider bait i guess.

The time it takes me to make 1 post I could have got several worthwhile links.

Most new people seem to figure that out as they stop around 20 or so...but for each one that gets a clue, another comes to fill their place
