    Hey Shawn,

Okay this is a formal petition so that we can get the post count not to increase when one posts in the introduction forums.

    Please See:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=51589

I actually was looking through the new posts themselves and on page 2 half were from introductions.

Besides Shawn, your post limits are going to be useless if someone posts 10 or 50 times in the Introductions Forum.

That doesn't make someone a valued member of this forum.

So, people vote (I hate polls too, but this is probably an important one) and make your voice heard.

    And Shawn . . . I still love this place ;)

People will only move over to the general chat and make stupid comments like "oh, that is funny"

Both boards should not increase post count.

Every day I wake up and find 12 pages of new posts. You can imagine how many of those are just junk comments and welcomings.

    It's a start.

And this might just be the first poll in months that was actually worth starting.

I have a potentially better idea... I just need to find the time to sit down and code it.

Yeah, take away the postcount for intro and chatting and make it retroactive IMO.

Or let them count as a negative value so you can easily see where someone tends to hang out if they're -400.

The biggest problem is people signing up and welcoming members that joined before them...Expanding on Johannnn's idea I say:

If their post count is :

    <50 - Each intro is a negative 1
    50-250 - negative .5
    250+ - It just doesn't count

That way actual existing members are welcoming people (if they so choose) rather then post count padders looking to make .05 a day with AdSense Sharing

Also - No Follows on Sigs when posted in the Intros Section

Auto-red rep (or 2 day bans) on posts in old intro threads, or auto-locks when > 10 days could do the tricks. Loads of evil stuff I can think of.

Well at least Shawn is thinking about it :)

Everyone here makes some good points. I do like the negative rating. Because 1000 posts everywhere just isn't 1000 posts in the intro forum.

I do agree with ya Minstrel the general chat would be hijacked. I actually never thought of that.

Have you noticed that no one who has commented here against this. 6 people so far have objected. I wonder where they are posting.

Last night Crazy Rob got a screen shot of one offender a few minutes later I looked and it looked like it did when Rob posted the shot only with different offenders name plastered down the page.

I think Shawn should remove the post count from newbies and general chat, and increase the sig requirement to 50 posts. That'll cut down on the newbie spam for sure, and encourage people to become active members.

Actually, I think that will encourage crap posts. I would suggest removing the post count altogether but it seems that isn't going to happen. The only other remedy is frequent and repeated stabbings, as far as i can tell.

Well, I'm not a big specialist in forum management, but I think the post count thing is almost useless.
People will always find easy ways to increase post count.

So may be it's better to allow using trade forums only to people who have

    1. high reputation, something like 20-30 should be enough
    2. been a member for some time, may be a month or so..

    What do you think?

Yeah, but it is much easier to spot someone that is just posting BS to increase their count at the good forums and they would turn red in 2 minutes, while in the introductions and chat boards they seem to go undetected.

Yes. Because hardly anyone is in there replying who ISN'T there for increasing post count, spamming, or otherwise self-promoting in some way.
