Personal thoughts on making "big success" websites

Here are some of my personal thoughts on how to make websites that are big hits and reach PR7-9:

    - Make a site about something you're passionate about

Do it because you love it. Don't put AdSence everywhere, and don't have money be in your top 5 factors for doing the website (unless it's a company, of course).

    - Be very responsive to your commmunity

Respond to their emails, be active in any forums, etc. I believe this is a key to turning fans into zealots. A few seconds of your time can transform into a lifetime of love!

    - If you are passionate about the site and you work hard, your community will quickly take notice

Pagerank and other's thoughts are quickly disregarded in my mind when I see evidence of serious community concern, and frequent updates.

Those are just a few of my personal thoughts. What are yours?

Here are a few examples of sites (and companies) that I think really take these concepts to heart:

    eden.cc
Hosts a family of websites that religiously follow all of the above

    Fawnt.com
A simple site without a community, but a great app that's constantly evolving

    Wishlistr.com
Super simple app with a great and fun idea! Well designed, and evidence of a lot of thought is noticeable throughout the site.

Just want to say I don't own or have anything to do with these sites, what so ever! Just pointing out some examples.

    What are your thoughts?

Sadly, none of those sites are mine...
