Hi everyone, Nice forums you've got here. I've been reading around a bit and I hope you've got an answer to the following issue: I have recently re-ordered my site and all pages now have new URLs. I used .htaccess to permanently forward (301) every page to it's new version. Since this morning I am seeing my new URLs in Google. Unfortunately positions have deteriorated horribly. I used to have number 1 and 2 spots on Google for various popular keywords but now most of my pages are on page 20 or further down, while the pages contents have remained exactly the same. The pagerank indicator in the Google toolbar show 0 pagerank for all new URLs while the old URLs had PR3 or PR4. Do you think it is a matter of time before my pages will regain their old PR? Or should PR transfer immediately? the fact that it shows PR0 on the toolbar suggests the page has already been evaluated by Google...
It will take 3-4 weeks for your rankings to recover, and PageRank could be months (whenever Google updates the public side of it).
I have the same issue: new URLs, 301 redirection, PR0 for the new URLs, and PR nonzero for the old URLs. My URLs have been updated in Google, which is good. The PageRank has obviously not transferred, despite the fact that I read that doing a proper 301 transfer will accomplish this. My placement in various searches seems to have suffered somewhat (but not terribly). Do you this think slippage is attributable my loss of PR while other optimization that I've done has offset it? I find it a little disappointing that it takes so long for the PR to transfer. The Future PageRank tools indicate PR0. Will these tools give me fair warning of when my new pages pick up PR?
Generally it would take 3-6 months to transfer everything fully. The best situation would be to try to get existing backlinks to point to the new location while continuing to build additional links to the new location. Also remember that if you are going by the Google Toolbar, that PageRank will fluctuate over time regardless of site moves like this.
