Permanent 301 transfer, what happens SERP after transfer?

I have a site which is now a free sub domain and is located in the most important keyword 5 place in SERP. Now, would soon be time to move on to a paid domain.
What to expect, how to affect the ranking in search results?
What can I do to minimize the disadvantages?

Well.. your new domain should perform well in the search results after you do permanent 301 redirect.

Here's what you need to do:

    1. Transfer all the content that you want from the old domain to the new.

    2. Check that the navigation on your new site is completely correct, without any blank/error pages and not linking back to your old domain.

    3. After Google has started indexing your new site pages, try to 301 Permanently Redirect each of your old URLs to the equivalent new page URL. If you can't do 301 redirections for some pages, you can remove the relevant content on the old domain page and provide a contextualized link to the new page location.

    4. Encourage any sites/blogs that link to you to update their links to your new domain.

You'll usually experience some ups-and-downs in search results during the transfer. After the transfer is completed you should see steady rankings and sometimes normal fluctuations. However, it's important that Google and other search engines don't get too many conflicting/contradictory signals. There should be little or no "duplicate content" in your new domain site.

If you can do the 301 redirections, you won't have any significant issues of duplicate content as it makes sense what you're doing (shutting down the old site and opening a new one). Furthermore, you should leave the 301 redirects in place for a long time as they can still be beneficial long after the new domain has got indexed.

If you're transfering your free blogspot domain to a customized domain in wordpress, you might find the following post helpful:

    Hope that helps. :)
