Permanant (301) redirect to new domain + keep Google analytics data

I did a permanent .htaccess redirect from one domain to a new one. I added the Google analytics code to the footer of the new site. As might be expected, it's showing me that 99% of my traffic is DIRECT. Any suggestions on how I can slip my Google analytics tracking for this new domain into the original site, so that I can still get all that juicy details, while retaining the 301 redirect?

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    I found this:

    Via Google Analytics Help Center

But I'm not quite techy enough to understand how to go about making this change. Any advice?

    Thanks,
    Sean
