Under "Permalinks" in admin, there's an option for: ...where you can choose what the category looks like within the URL. If you choose nothing, it sets it to a default, which is "/category/". However, I want nothing at all, and I can't figure out how to do it. In other words, I'm getting this: www.mysite.com/category/page1 but I want this: www.mysite.com/page1 How do I go about doing this, or removing the default "category" that wordpress sticks in there?? I'm surprised they never made it an option to just turn this off completely...
I think you want to use the custom tag... and use %postname% it gives you site.com/post title which is better for seo than /page1 hope that helps, Nigel Edit: Actually, I am quite certain.
Hey Nigel, I'm now using: /%category%/%postname% -- thanks, I've kind of forgotten how to set these things up, it's been a long time!
You don't have to use category if you dont want to, You can simply paste postname in the custom field. It really depends on the domain name. Keep in mind that I have my blog in /news but I have the topic in the domain name. It winds up looking like this http://www.hubbleprints.com/news/hubble_anniversary it would become quite redundant in my case to have hubbleprints.com/hubble/hubble_anniversery Food for thought. Nigel
For better ranking and adsense relevant ads u need to use custom permalink structure: Permalinks : custom structure : write as /%category%/%postname%/ OR /%category%/%postname%.html
