Permalink question [Important!]

    So my site is displaying articles like so:

    site.com/articles/?id=3

    How do I make it so that it looks like this:

    site.com/articles/3

    I already did a .htaccess trick but that ruined a lot of things. I would rather not use .htaccess but if that is the only way you know then please help!

    .htaccess is the only easy way of doing it.
