I have this site which was on Page 1 in Google for its keywords for more than an year even though it was not being updated for the whole of this time.

I shifted the site to a different host. Here the problem is that all the sub-pages/linked pages are displayed as

    www.example.com/index.php/page1

The index.php part has to be there (i am using wordpress) otherwise I get a 404 page not found if i just use this

    www.example.com/page1

Could it be that the site has lost the position due to this or due to the lack of updates? Its now on page 5-6.

    Thanks

The update is not very important. Your host is a problem. Your problem is weird and important. I suggest that you write to the technical support of your host to fix this. I have not used Wordpress before, but I saw many site that used it and they did not have your problem. May be this is configuration with Wordpress. You might check this before contacting the support. Clearly, your loss of position is due to the page link is not update frequency.
