The question being asked- is Perl out out of date? Has the Internet World turned to PHP over PERL? Who still uses perl- geeks or those who refuse to learn PHP?

Perl is AWESOME! But, alas, most websites seem to prefer PHP. But there is so much in common between the 2....

There's more out there than just PHP. Ruby (the next birthstone after the pearl) and Flex are popular new comers while J2EE and .NET is entrenched in the corporate world's approach to the web. Then there is good old ColdFusion that is proclaimed dead every few years just before leap frogging ahead.

I am not sure how much new Perl work is done in total but I'd say it's primarily in the maintenance phase of its life. Of course there will be a few out there that do it all day long but overall for most of us it's a thing of the past.
