I currently own 2 proxy sites, and have today heard that proxy sites end up getting blocked over a period of time, is this true ? if so what is the life span of a typical mproxy site ? what happens when it gets blocked? who blocks it ? im sure theres someone kind enough on here to explain !!

By 'blocked' I think people mean being added to web filter lists resulting in less traffic from students and schoolkids trying to bypass their internet filter.

most web filters (ones that schools and such use) update between daily and almost never. it all depends on who is trying to access your site from where.

Yes.. Your traffic will most likely decline if your site is blocked on filters by schools. Especially big ones like websense.

As people have said above, the filters commonly used by employers and educational institutions will block proxy sites because they can be used to avoid these filters. If you would like to make sure that your site will be accessible anyway you could rig something up that requires a username and password to access the proxy (like .htaccess) which will prevent the automatic filtering by WebSense. Unfortunately, since you will need to make sure WebSense does not think it's a proxy site, you will need to strip the information that lets Google know how to treat you as well. (You could just have the username and password on the home page).

So if you want search engine generated traffic, this might not work. However if you plan on mostly direct traffic, this method would work fine.

I have a few questions. How long has your proxy site been open? How much traffic do you get a month? Is it submitted to proxy.org? As the users said above me if it's blocked by WebSense (what my school uses), then you will have a steady decline in your traffic overtime.

low traffic doesnt neccessarily means you're blocked.
and dont rely on adbrite visitors counts.

if you're blocked, you'll get close to none traffic
but if your proxies have jsut started, not blocked just low traffic
if your proxies have been running for long but havent advertised extremely, just low traffic not blocked

for schools, I would say 3 or 4 weeks. after that, if you want to keep the traffic up, sell the domain and buy a new one like it. (you will end up lossing $2 or $3 from domain costs by doing that)
