I really could not understand the benefits of all in seo plugin. I watched videos and blog posts. I could gather only a few points. What is canonical url? What is per post seo? Thank you for your time and help.
Hey Rangan, Its all easy concepts, i will help you out here: Benefits of All in One SEO Pack plugin All in one SEO pack is basically a plugin that gives you options when you add a new post to key in your post title, Post description and Post keywords. It also gives you the character limitations that any search engines would read. This gives you complete control how your post is indexed and what appears in a search result. I strongly recommend using this plugin. What is Canonical URL Early days we used to find default wordpress URLs like example.com/home.php or example.com/home.php?t=12321. Just like we human beings, even search engines do not make any sense form this code or numbers, so canonical URL is the form that makes it look like example.com/what-is-canonical-url kind of format and makes it readable and indexable for the SE bots. What is Per Post SEO I think you are referring to inpage SEO optimization, those factors that control your Search engine optimization on a page by controlling the Headings, H1, H2 tags, keywords, title, meta tags etc will help. some plugins to help onpage seo are 1. All in one SEO 2. SEOPressor Hope this reply helped clear your questions. Keep asking Cheers Josh
That is not quite right. Canonical Urls are for pages of your site that has identical or vastly similar content that's accessible through multiple URLs. The format provides you with more control over the URL returned in search results. It also helps to make sure that properties such as link popularity are consolidated to your preferred version. If you look at the old example from Google Webmaster Central blog, they have a page with a canonical Url of http://www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish This page can also be accessed via http://www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish&cat=gummy-candy too. Consolidating all of these various Urls into one canonical Url reduces duplicate content and lets you set the page Url that you want to be indexed. This is similar to the option you have for setting your root domain Url (with or without the WWW) As for the All-in-one SEO plugin. I am not sure that is really needed now-a-days. There are well structured themes out there that take care of the most important items of SEO. If you want META elements for keywords and description (which are not really needed anymore) you can use tags and excerpt respectively. Some themes have this built into it or separate per post meta variable boxes just like the plugin has (Hybrid framework does this, which has an over-ride in the settings if you are using an SEO plugin).
Thank you Dodger and Joshu Thomas. You both seems to have in depth knowledge about wordpress. I am going to search all your earlier posts. I may pick up a lot of insight.
No problem. But don't research my earlier posts on SEO from a couple of years ago, some of the information may no longer apply. I got fed up with the link whores and myth perpetuaters inside that forum and went my merry way. If I were you, I would take everything you read inside the SEO forums with a grain of salt. The best SEO forum is probably Search Engine Watch if you want to read up on the subject. In general, there are only a few things you need to know about "onpage SEO" and once learned, they will serve you well for years to come. Good Titles, strong and proper use of Headings, and unique Content. Writing content is another topic onto itself and I suggest reading CopyBlogger.com articles which are respected throughout this industry.
Really useful info indeed, thanks for it! I think setting up the right URLs (under Settings -> Permalinks) to be something like "/%category%/%postname%/" is more important than the whole All-in-one plugin itself.. Also another plugin I use is Google XML Sitemaps. Logging in inside Google Webmaster tools you can submit it to Google and then you can follow how fast your blog get indexed.
