I am curious, my site is doing rather well now and I never purchased my Yahoo Directory listing. The Yahoo directory page that my site would be on has a PR5 rank (again not that much weight added to this fact). My question(s) is to those people who actually have their Yahoo listing. Does the directory actually send you any direct traffic? As for indirect traffic, was there an overall percentage increase to your site's traffic?
Yes, I've had Punknet.com in there since 1997 or so. We switched to a social networking model after not promoting the site for over a year. 5 minutes after we flipped the switch, someone had already logged on and made an account. We get a lot of traffic that way, but I think it's mostly young people or people new to the web. Most savvy people dont find sites that way.
I have several sites that have been in theYahoo Directory since 1996-97, and we get steady (though not blockbuster) traffic to this day. I haven't bought in since they set the $299 fee, though, so I can't speak for more recent additions.
We get a small amount of traffic from the directory and it does convert. If these were paid listings, I'd renew annually.
