ALTA VISTA is ranked 248 with alexa... Google is tanked 3rd. That should tell you something. ALthough 248 out of millions and millions isnt half bad... i wouldnt be complaining ;-)
a lot of domain buyers go with alexa ranking. a lot of the times when a domain is ranked lower on alexa, it means it could have some good traffic.
Then I'd have to say a lot of domain buyers don't know what they're doing. And pretty much all of the time it doesn't mean a damn thing except that the remaining 16 people in the world who still have that useless toolbar installed are visiting that site.
This answer doesn't make good netpreneurial sense. You are buying a domain in order to start a site, which, you will have to promote, free or paid. Eventually the amount of traffic will increase and If the alexa ranking excites you then it will "decrease" too. (Those stats can easily be tampered, there's no atomic precision in it) "Some people" don't have a clue how to start and promote a site from ground up and most people (98%) don't make a cent online due to preconceptions like those. Traffic Crazy, welcome to the DP board!
i didnt say thats what i believe... i think the best was to make a site and to get a lot of traffic YOU will want is to start fresh... all im saying is that few people still use alexa.com as a ranking source. Andrew Shaw
I was not pin-pointing you Traffic Source. It was just a message for "those people" becasue i know there are many who do. Judging a website or old domain by its alexa ranking is downright shortsightedness.
I ranked for a BIG keyword #1 on altavista for around 3 months and it was extra 1000 uniques a day. So, yes, I would say people use it, and it has a lot of syndications as well, and together all means more traffic.
i feel people are using it there are only 4 options people have google yahoo MSN Altvista we are geeting good traffic from altavista although its less then as compare to other three still we can not neglect it as watever we are getting from it we are satisfied Regards
I agree with above. Can't neglect Altavista although it's about 3% of my traffic for most of my sites right now.
Av are still sending a fair few hits to a few of my sites. I personally havnt used them since 2-3 years back.
I remember back in the days when we used altavista. We didn't have all the Google filters and just had to search through the spam ourselves.
