People still use Alta Vista?

Yikes, my AW stats is telling me that more people find my site through Alta Vista then through Msn and Yahoo - combined! Of course Google is 10x any of them.

That's new this month, for a while AOL was my second most common engine. I think my visitors are in the stone age. ;)

That seems very odd to me, too. AltaVista used to be my search engine of choice way back in the day. Way before Google, MSN, and when Yahoo was just a directory, lol.

Nope they dont suck, my rankings for Yahoo and MSN are very similar to my Google rankings. It's gotta be the stone age theory!

Alta Vista was T-H-E big thing since sliced bread in the old days like iTISTIC said. Perhaps people who still use it are old? :D

I remember it ... It kept my awake in the night with my slow modem and I got more and more faschinated each day.

Then I was away for 5 years in another country and away from internet and when I came back my family talked about Google - which I had never heard about. And I said "Google, what is that for shit? Why not Altavista?" My little brother was laughing :)

Could G become pre-historic like AV then? I doubt it in the short term!

I still get noticeable traffic (30-50 uniques a day) from Altavista on one of my sites (more than from Google - which makes me pretty certain G has penalised it).

I also rank well on the big three SEs but see some consistent traffic from AltaVista...

The #1 referrer is consistently Google and #2 many months is AOL.

AV sent 12 people to my site last week. I can't believe people still use them.

I remember when I first started doing SEO, I used WebPro Gold and AV banned me for the "blueline.gif'.

I will never forgive them! :D

    Thanks, I think...

... although I'm not sure that answers the question about the dead cat. The pose in the picture bears a scary resemblance to rigor mortis...

(and before anyone accuse me of being off-topic, we were discussing AltaVista -> dead cat -> rigor mortis  )

Got to love babelfish though! Sometimes I'll search on Alta Vista as I'm in the translation area.
