So I have been running my website for about 3.5 months now and my traffic is mainly coming from search engines (50%) and about 200 other websites such as John Chow's, DP forum and similar. I'm currently mainly targeting US traffic as well, if you wanted to know. Anyways, according to my Analytics over the past months I have come to a conclusion that people from California seems to be looking to "make money online" the most in the whole US. Almost all of the searches they have come to my sites with contains the words "make money online". Now I'm just wondering, are people in California poor/poorer than the rest of the US or are they just trying their luck online? Or do you have any other idea why almost 1/4 of all my US traffic is from California? I just thought it might be fun to share this information with others. Remember, this is search engine traffic, and I am not active at any specific website targeting traffic from California. Top searches for making money online. 1. California. 2. New York. 3. Texas. 4. Florida. I have gotten about 8500 visitors from US, so I know this stats may be wrong later on, but I will update with new stats once I reach 100´000 visits from the US. PS: I am currently ranking on first page for about 30 keywords containing the words "make money online" and other big searches. Californians seems to mainly enter my website though the search "how to make money on YouTube".
LOL, Californians and New Yorkers are either losing jobs or finding a lot of time to make extra cash, or just want extra cash. Keep us updating. Fun thread! Subed.
You're reading too much into this. If you look it up (you'll need to do this yourself as my link was disallowed) you'll see that the four states you mentioned happen to be the four states with the highest population as well.
Well california has twice the amount of searches for "make money online" than any other state. I don't know how many people there are in each state, but I just thought it would be funny to share. =) And even if that's the case, it still shows where it's more profitable to market a products in this niche.
I agree with Derek that search volume by state is, at least in part, population based, but could also be somehwhat correlated to housing markets as CA, FL, TX, NY have all had larger than average corrections in real estate. It will be interesting to see if at 100,00 US visitors, if the visitor distribution by state begins to mirror population % by state or if there are other forces at play.
Well this was something interesting thread. It means people there in California are much aware of how to get money by working online...So dear take it in a positive sense
I look at everything that bring me money in a positive way. Here are the top places in California: 1. Los Angeles 2. San Francisco 3. San Diego 4. Redwood City 5. San Jose San Diego has the lowest bounce rate. Redwood City has the highest bounce rate.
