I have seen some people copying photos from my blog and inserting in their blog. Is not it copyright violation?

I emailed them saying that it is illegal but they send me ridiculous mails saying there is no copyright in blog plus I have not displayed any information regarding copyrights. Again, they emailed me saying all materials written in blogspot blog will be copyrighted by blogspot and not by individual writers.

I am quite at a loss. Can u tell me how this copyright stuff works?

if you are hosting them on a sever you have then the best thing to do would be to upload a new pic of your site

then edite the pic the on the other site will something else or add copyrights to the pic then it will soon get taken off lol

or do this to all your pics then now will taken them if it has copyright site name on it

    hope this helps you out

You do of course have to copyrights to your own pictures, and even tought you provide blogspot the right to use them, that does NOT mean that everyone else can.

Anyways, unless your willing to go to court with the case, there isn't much you can do except sending them email and hope that they will reason with you..

Stealing your pictures is definitely illegal and you could take them to court. Take a screen shot of there site, so you have proof, then send them an invoice. I had an issue with a very well known company, they were actually selling my model related pictures as mobile phone wall papers. It was quite a good earner when they settle out of court. I always shoot in Raw, that way you have digital negatives (.cr2 for canon users) which contain lots of info related to the camera, time, date, exposure etc etc.

I myself have experienced the issue. They didn't even have the decency to steal the pic and host it on imageshack, they just direct linked it from my blog, so i caught them pretty easy. Some respond to e-mails and blog comments while others wont and it's quite worthless dragging them to court. I would suggest watermarking your pictures although that won't stop people from stealing or un-quoting sources.

If you don't feel like hiring a lawyer, then the best solution is the sabotage mentioned above. Just make a copy of the photo on your server and have your blog point to the copied image. Replace the original photo with an image of your choosing. I've people do this with some pretty gross pictures, but I prefer a more mature "this site is stealing pictures" or something to that effect.

Send them and their provider a C&D letter. You might be able to find a boiler plate on All Business. Otherwise, I would consider an attorney like Jeffery Cohen

if they are hot linking the photo ( meaning using your url and not even othering to save it re-upload it somewhere) you can have fun with replacing that photo and calling them a thief. limitless possibilities for fun and embarrasement!

If they are smart, and saving it, then re-uploading it somewhere, contact the webmaster of the site and tell them.

From now on, place a watermark on your photos. Doesn't have to be fancy or anything, you can do it with any photo editing program you use.

If they know what they are doing, thy can still remove the watermark, but it at least makes it a little more difficult.
