People bought all extentions for my lousy domain

When I started one of my websites half a year ago I registred a .com for it. Nothing special, no keywords, nothing, you can say really shitty name. My site is doing great and I just noticed that people bought all other major extentions for my domain and parked them (.net, .org, .info, .us).

Why?? What the hell motivates you to buy other extentions of a lousy domain name? You can't seriously expect to get any type in traffic on those extentions, I mean I am not google or youtube.

Also if they expect to start a similar website they will never catch me, I have .com and over 2000 backlinks now.

I am starting another project, do you think I should register all extentions? What kind of harm can people that have other extentions do to me?

If you are serious about the site you should register all the extensions.

No major harm can come from someone registering a different extension unless they start competing in your niche and outrank you. I've someone chasing my ass at the mo.

Yes you should register .net and .org at least, since people can easily outrank you for the same keywords at least in few search engines.

They are playing the odds of riding your coat tails if you do something special, or selling it to you in the future.
That should be proof enough to everyone that domains are rare, and all the viable, marketable ones are taken.
People are grabbing at scraps now.

I guess you are right, specialy since the different extentions were registred by different people.

whats the domain? (if you dont mind)

yes. reg at least .net .org and .info.

ive reggd the .infos of a few popular .com and got some really nice traffic from the "domain name" keywords on natural SERPs.

Whenever I purchase a domain that I am serious about, I always purchase the *net and *org extensions and point them to the *com site. If I believe the site will be very popular, then I go after other extensions.

Obviously, someone thinks money can be made off of the domain, hence the snapping up of all of the extensions.

You could buy yourself into the ground speculating what people might or might not try... They do it because they don't get ideas for them selves. Let them.

There has always been a good idea in being first mover, or simply being good at what you do... Let the jerks look through what comes out of your back side. And feel content that 90% of them don't make any decent money of it.

If you have a plan to develop and have faith you'll succeed, buy any RELEVANT ext. Otherwise, I always pass and buy what I need and nothing more.
